Villanova, PA – Prior to the 2009-10 football season the University of Alabama renovated the Hank Crisp Indoor
Practice Facility; among other highlights former indoor tennis courts were used to expand the practice area and
new turf was put in the facility. With this expansion came the challenge of finding a more effective and efficient
way to capture meaningful video during practice critical to the Crimson Tide’s game preparation and player
development. Associate Athletic Director for Football, Mike Vollmar, heard about how the Wavecam had gotten
rave reviews from Joe Paterno and his assistant coaches at Penn State after they began using Wavecams in their
practice facility. Penn State’s Offensive Line Coach, Bill Kenney went so far as to say the Wavecam™ offered a
“competitive advantage.”
After meeting with Wavecam’s sales implementation team and seeing how Wavecam’s™ functionality could
capture practice in the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility from an endless number of angles and perspectives,
Alabama decided to purchase a Wavecam™. In a matter of weeks the Wavecam was installed.
The Wavecam™ has allowed for the video staff to provide critical angles, get behind or in front of the play, always
move with the spot of the ball and help provide the coaches new insights. The Crimson Tide is very pleased with
their decision and claim that the Wavecam™ has been a big help to the coaches, players and the video staff.
Alabama also indicated that the other teams were now inquiring about the Wavecam™.
Wavecam’s President, Gary Giegerich, commented that with the ability to install multiple Wavecam Systems™ in
practice facilities indoors or outdoors like those at Alabama, Penn State and California that Wavecam Media will
very busy in 2010. Giegerich went on to say that Wavecam’s broadcast solutions also were taking flight with many
national and regional broadcasts airing this fall. Wavecam’s amazing aerial views appeared on networks such as
Fox, ESPN, Versus and Comcast.
